Moab Fossil Mosaic Scenic Deck, 2006

315 sq. feet

The architectural installation shown here is installed in a new home overlooking a deep canyon near Canyon Lands National Park in Utah. The emphasis of the piece is a large collection of sandstone fossils including fish, plants and insects. Drawn imagery that was inspired by gestures and symbols found in ancient rock paintings was incised and glazed on tiles by the artist and designed to harmonize with the red and gold canyon rock. The artist installed fossil rocks with ceramic and glass tile to create an environment that reflects desert canyon rock, wild flowers of the area and the blue sky reflected in the adjacent pool. This is part of a larger installation of 6 mosaic pillars in a new home that overhangs a deep red rock canyon in Moab, Utah. The mural depicts the view of mountains and rock formations seen from this poolside patio. Sandstone fossils, handmade ceramic tile, glass.
